The Board of Fire Commissioners of the Cairo Fire District will be holding a public hearing on the proposed budget for the year 2026 on Monday, October 20, 2025 at 6:00 pm at the Cairo Firehouse, 30 Railroad Avenue, Cairo, NY. All persons interested thereon may attend and be heard.

Draft budget is available at the Town of Cairo Town Clerks office in the Cairo Town Hall and/or the District Secretary’s Office at the Cairo Firehouse.

The Town of Cairo is updating our Comprehensive Plan, which is required to apply for the New York Forward program. If successful, we could access millions in state funding to strengthen and improve our downtown. You can read more about this process at cairocompplan.com.

💡 Potential ways we could use the funds:

• Small business assistance fund to support local storefronts
• Better Main Street lighting, walkways to the park, and parking
• More affordable, high-quality apartments
• Attracting new businesses like a restaurant and hotel

But, we need your help to make it happen!

There is a Planning Board Meeting Scheduled for Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 7pm in the Town Hall Meeting Room

The Department Heads will discuss the 2026 Budgets that they submitted to the Town Board on the following dates:

September 25, 2025 from 6:10pm – 8pm in the Town Hall Meeting Room and

October 2, 2025 from 10am – 12:15pm in the Town Hall Meeting Room.

These are open to the public to listen to but not to discuss/ask questions.

There will be a public hearing on the 2026 budget that the public can voice their questions/concerns. Date will be provided after October 6 board meeting.

There will be an Emergency Board Meeting Tonight, September 22, 2025 at 5pm in the Town Hall Meeting Room in reference to the Cell Phone Tower agreement on Ira Vale Rd.
